Coromandel BeachesNew Chums Beach
Rated as one of the world’s top 20 beaches, New Chums Beach is located just a 20 minute drive from Coromandel TOP 10 Holiday Park in Coromandel Town.
Accessible only by sea or foot, your journey to New Chums begins at the northern end of Whangapoua Beach on the east coast of the Coromandel Peninsula. The beach is more easily accessed at low-tide, as you’ll need to walk around the rocky headland to reach the track over the hill. Once on the track, weave through a grove of native nikau and pohutukawa trees, down to the jewel that is New Chums Beach. The walk takes around 15-20 minutes. On the beach you’ll be greeted with warm golden sands and a beach that stretches far into the distance. You’ll be sure to find a private spot, even during the busy Christmas and New Year period. Our Coromandel Peninsula holiday park accommodation is the perfect base to explore New Chums Beach and the many surrounding towns.
Cathedral Cove
Cathedral Cove is located at the northern end of Hahei on the east coast of the Coromandel Peninsula; a 1 hour 15 minute drive from Coromandel TOP 10 Holiday Park. The walk to Cathedral Cove is a spectacular thing to do while travelling around the Coromandel Peninsula, whether you're here for a weekend getaway, family holiday, or a school camp.
Like all great New Zealand beaches, Cathedral Cove is only accessible by foot or sea. The hike takes around 1 hour 30 minutes return, while accessing the cove by boat or kayak is considerably faster.
Cathedral Cove and the surrounding 9 square kilometres of ocean is a marine park. Bring your snorkelling gear, or grab a set of gear on your way to Cathedral Cove from the Hahei snorkel and dive shop. The vibrant fish-life here is truly astounding!
It can get busy at times, so finding a carpark can be hard; you can book shuttles from Hahei to save the trouble - contact us for more information.
